Car Squeaking? Stop By For Chassis Lubrication

Get a lube in a jiffy with a full service oil change and lube from your nearby Firestone Complete Auto Care! In general, most cars and trucks are made with sealed "lubed-for-life" ball joints, U-joints, and tie rod ends, which means that lube services aren't as common as they used to be. However, during a full service oil change at Firestone Complete Auto Care, one of our ASE-certified technicians will perform a courtesy 19-point inspection on your vehicle. During that inspection, the technician may lubricate the chassis, as necessary.

What Is Chassis Lubrication?

A vehicle's frame is also known as its chassis. Few vehicles are still manufactured with chassis lubrication fittings, but if you drive an older vehicle there may be a host of grease fittings that need attention during your regularly scheduled oil change service. Before the widespread use of sealed "lubed-for-life" bushing, bearings, etc., manufacturers would recommend lubricating your grease fittings at regular intervals. Between 6,000 and 12,000 miles, drivers would get a lube service where grease was injected into joints, links, and bushings in the chassis. Today, most vehicles do not require lube service. Some vehicle models even feature a sealed chassis system with Teflon coated joints, which also do not require lubrication.

With that being said, if you drive an older car and notice that your car creaks or squeaks when you go over bumps, let your technician know. Your control arm bushings and stabilizer bushings may need to be lubed, which is something our lube service can help fix!
